CAN YOUR UNIVERSITY AFFORD TO LOSE A MASTER KEY?
Losing a master key can be very costly, in fact, an American College ( the College of William and Mary) lost a master key recently, this loss cost the College of William and Mary hundreds of thousands of dollars to re-key their entire campus. While it may seem obvious, it’s still extremely important to take note of every potential way the security of your keys might become compromised.
There is a multitude of ways your keys can become compromised, such as:
- Getting lost
- Given to another employee
- Taken home
- Getting stolen
- Not getting returned to the key safe
Mismanagement leads to frustration and loss; this happens when the key isn’t tracked in a professional manner.
WHAT LOST MASTER KEYS COSTS
The College of William and Mary will have to pay more than 500 thousand dollars, in order to replace keys and locks for numerous campus buildings after its set of master keys went missing last semester (According to The college newspaper).
With adverse effects:
- Insurance claims
- Downtime
- Replacement
- Reputation
How long would this disrupt my university?
A university with approximately 3000 locks, would take 3 months (94 days) for one locksmith to re-key all of the locks. With ten locksmiths this would take 9 days, two full working weeks.
THE SOLUTION-ATLAS
- View your assets on the map (equipment, tools and vehicles)
- Emergency LOST KEY ALERT ON AND OFF SITE
- Automated daily audit
WHAT IS ATLAS
Assets are often misplaced, this leads to lost time. With our tracking solution, named ‘Atlas’ you can open the Atlas app on your phone and know where your assets are with the press of a button.
THE OUTCOME OF KEY TRACKING
Saved time
Save having to disrupt your university for up to two weeks (extrapolation based on your university having 3000 locks and a locksmith spending 15 minutes to re-key each lock. With 10 locksmiths working 8 hours a day)
Saved money
Avoid spending half a million dollars to re-key your entire campus. (According to The college newspaper)
HOW DOES ATLAS WORK?
Simply place a Bluetooth tag on an asset that needs to be tracked and wireless ‘gateways’ are placed throughout the site. These gateways receive ‘Bluetooth advertising‘ — this is just a fancy way of saying they receive a signal from the tags. This signal tells the real-time location of the tag to the gateway and the gateway tells the Atlas system. The tag’s battery should last between one to five years.
