The Expanding Role of Bluetooth in Smart Buildings

What is a node?

We have implemented nodes as a strategy to make perimeter tracking possible without access to services such as power and internet.

Nodes are a long-range, lightweight, battery-powered listening device. The node receives ‘bluetooth advertising’ from tags, this allows the node to calculate the real-time location of each asset that has a tag attached. The nodes communicate over a network of other nodes to get the data back to the gateway, the data is then relayed back to the cloud.

With one of the latest Bluetooth technologies (BT5), the distance between nodes can be hundreds of metres. This means that fewer nodes are needed to cover the same distance as before.
